Financial responsibility
for taxpayers dollars has always been an awesome responsibilty that is
not taken lightly by this administration. Graham County Kansas unfortunately
has been decreasing in size for the past several years and consequently
the tax burden has become greater and greater upon fewer and fewer people.
Consequently the law enforcement budget has not been able to grow with
the mandatory mandates that have been handed down through the years. A
few years ago this adminstration actively pursued a means in which to temporarily
reslove that problem. We entered into a contract with Sedgwick County Kansas
to hold some of their inmates on a per deim basis. In most years this agency
is able to return approximately $25,000 to the county general budget equipment
fund for future use.
This agency whole-heartedly
supports the Hill City Police Department D.A.R.E. program.

Crime prevention is an
on going duty that is performed each and every day by each officer. Although
there have been numerous crime prevention programs developed over the years,
none of them are any more effective than an honest sincere officer to which
the public responds accordingly. The best crime prevention program is simply
an aware public that is willing to get involved and solve community problems.

Due to the Kansas Supreme
Court's decision in State v. Myers, 260 Kan. 669 (1996), the Kansas Sex
Offender Registration, enacted by K.S.A. 22-4901 et seq., contains information
only on convicted sex offenders who committed their offenses after April
14, 1994.
The information contained in the registration
has been provided by the registrant. The KBI and the Graham County Sheriff's
Office cannot guarantee the accuracy of this information. It is common
for offenders to move and fail to notify the sheriff's office in their
county of residence of that change. This information is updated continuously,
however, the KBI cannot guarantee the accuracy day to day.
The Graham County Sheriff's
Department has a superb reputation among other law enforcement agencies
on all levels from municipal to federal. Although Graham County is the
fifth smallest county in the State of Kansas, the total department employment
is only 7 full time personel and 2 part time personel, yet the combined
departmental experience is over 100 years! This reputation has only increased
and solidified during these past years as more and more cooperation is
apparent in this ever changing world of law enforcement.
